Just Press Record Voice Recorder is a Great Native Recording App
Given that the Apple Watch has a built-in mic and speaker, you’d think that Apple would have an native voice recording app for its Watch. After all, it certainly makes a lot of sense to be able to quickly record right from your wrist. Well, Just Press Record aims to solve that with its $2.99 Universal app.
Jut Press Record for watchOS 2 is pretty much a super minimalistic recording app that consists of a big red record button in the middle of the display. You simply tap to record, then tap again to stop. Your recordings are saved with the date as the file name in .m4a format. Because it runs natively on the Watch, you can listen to your recording right on your wrist too. Sweet.
The app also uses iCloud Drive for storage between your iOS devices, meaning when you record a file, you’ll be able to access it on your iPad or iPhone (remember the app is Universal). Not having to worry about exporting files is certainly a big plus.
There is one caveat though. Currently, the app does not have a Glance or a Complication to make things even quicker. For now, you have to launch the app the old fashion way by pressing the crown and tapping a tiny little icon on the app screen. It’s not terrible, but I just don’t think it’s the future of apps on the Watch. Still, if you want a great recording app for your Watch, I highly recommend Just Press Record. It’s worth every penny.
