Catalyst Apple Watch Case is World's First IP68 Certified Waterproof Case
Accessory maker Catalyst says that it’s created the world’s first waterproof Apple Watch case that meets or exceeds IP68 standards, meaning it can withstand liquid beyond 3 meters.
According to Catalyst, the case also meets MIL SPEC standards for drop protection, meaning those with more active lifestyles should receive an extra layer of protection from things such as bumps and drops.
Catalyst also claims that while the case protects against drops and water damage, users will still be able to operate the touchscreen normally as well as operate both the Digital Crown and Contacts button without any issues. Ports for sound output and microphone are also present so that wearers will be able to hear notifications and such.
The downside to all this? The case must be used with a proprietary quick-release NATO band since the case makes Apple’s watch slots inaccessible. The case is also limited to the 42mm Apple Watch and is not yet available for the 38mm version.
How much you ask? $59.99 and it comes in three colors: all black, white and green, and grey and red. The company says that they expect to start shipping in November 2015.
