Sony’s New Smartwatch Features An E-ink Display on Both the Watch and the Band

August 30, 2016

Sony today announced an updated to their FES Watch with an all-new design. The FES Watch U now features an e-ink display on both the watch face as well as on the band, opening a door to some interesting design possibilities.

What’s pretty amazing is that with the press of a button through an app, the entire watch can look very different.

The band is a little thicker than a traditional band, but for what you get it’s actually pretty cool, especially since it stands out when compared to other smartwatches like the Apple Watch.

Another bonus is battery life. Because this thing operates only on e-ink, the battery can last for up to three weeks. This, of course, is a massive difference in battery life when compared to the Apple Watch. The watch is also waterproof.

Sony plans to ship 12 different watch faces and band designs with the watch.

There is one major problem, though. If you don’t live in Japan, you can’t get this thing. Just like the original FES watch, Sony is doing a crowdfunding campaign in hopes of getting this thing funded.
