Stay smart in the sun with SunDial: UV Index for Apple Watch

February 14, 2016

It might have been a heavy winter, but spring (and summer!) are just on the horizon. And if you think snowstorms are bad, sunburn can be even worse, bringing its own lasting effects on skin health. SunDial: UV Index, however, is a smart watchOS app that uses some of the platform’s best features to bring UV forecasts to the wrist. It’s definitely an Apple Watch app you should have installed in time for spring.

On the surface, the $1.99 universal app looks like a fine piece of software for iOS. But under the surface, there’s a functional and fully featured Apple Watch application ready for owners of the smartwatch to take advantage of.

For starters, SunDial lets watchOS users access hourly UV readings, as well as a summary of the day’s UV levels, right inside the app’s main user interface (UI). The app uses colored horizontal bars to represent the intensity of UV graphically; you can perform a simple swipe gesture to check on the day’s summary from this interface, too.

However, there’s more. Because SunDial also features a smart complication for watchOS which lets users check on UV forecasts without launching the app itself. This usefully supports Time Travel, too, allowing Apple Watch owners to see how UV levels are going to change over the course of the day. For more precise readings, mind you, a dedicated Glance is also available to access once SunDial has been installed on your Apple Watch. You might be at the beach, at the ball game, or out shopping in the city; regardless, SunDial makes it easy to check on the intensity of the sun and to act accordingly.

More generally speaking, SunDial features a nice design that looks great on watchOS. Better still, the software is fully optimized for watchOS 2, meaning it’ll run natively on Apple Watches using the second-generation OS. As mentioned, you can download SunDial: UV Index now for $1.99 on the App Store.
